Honest Compassionate Weight Loss
The most important thing you can do is to treat yourself with love and compassion. This is especially true if you are wanting to lose weight and have any long lasting success at keeping it off.
Trying to bully yourself to a lower weight might work for a little while, but it’s not sustainable because eventually another part of you will want to rebel and it will do anything and everything to flip your bully self on its head, taking back control. You go from what felt like having a super strong will power to a crazy wild eating machine.
This is such a common experience for anyone who has tried to bully themselves into losing weight. It seems to be working until it doesn’t.
Martha Beck in her “Four Day Win” book calls these two parts of ourselves the “Dictator and the Wild Child”. She goes on to say that each of these two parts are actually there to help us. The problem happens when either one of these two are in charge. The trick she says is to become the “compassionate witness”, so that you can see them as useful helpers that balance each other out and leaves you the compassionate witness free to choose.
Another important piece of successful weight loss is being honest with yourself, all around and throughout your weight loss journey, again doing it in a loving and compassionate way. You are where you are and that’s okay.
